The research and innovation sector at the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation is one of the crucial pillars in Oman, which has given great attention by establishing solid foundations and firm bases for it to promote and support various sectors related to research and innovation, also to encourage and create high-value knowledge, technology, and technical content. In addition to making research, development, and innovation system the essential criterion for the knowledge production system and providing a suitable research environment. Additionally, dedicating integration between the actors at research and innovation system to develop and improve the scientific, knowledge, and technical economy and achieve strength and self-immunity to employ human, social and intellectual capital to benefit from the opportunities it provides.
The research and innovation sector aims to enhance research, innovation, and technological interdependence, which in turn achieves a high-quality value from research, innovation, and development activities. It also aims to establish effective partnerships that create new institutional and social forms of knowledge production, transfer, and application. The sector also seeks to activate mechanisms of cooperation and coordination between all actors in the system, enhance the entrepreneurial approach, employ specialized integration between research and innovation activities, and support the role of intermediary institutions to promote integration, participatory action, and activation of the various research outputs of the strategic programs and plans in Oman.
Leadership in research and innovation in universities, colleges, various institutions, and research and studies centers and linking them to research, economic and industrial policies is one of the most actual expected results of this interaction by moving from the stage of learning and research to the stage of knowledge rooting and then the stage of production. Therefore, to the transition to a culture of creativity and development in society. The sector also works on familiarity with national priorities and harmony with the needs of reality, realizing twinning between research, innovation, and development, and following a scientific approach in developing everything that would develop research and innovation in Oman.
